Duties and responsibilities
To chair the Alumni Advisory Board and represent with due care and diligence all Loughborough University graduates, retired staff and Honorary graduates of the University and the former Loughborough Colleges.
The President will work with the University’s Alumni and Supporter Engagement team to:
- Act as a voice of the University’s alumni community/ provide an alumni perspective on the development of university strategy/ objectives and on key activities and initiatives.
- Act as an advocate of the University. Proactively share university news, updates and opportunities to get involved across your personal networks (friends, colleagues, business contacts) to support engagement activity, student recruitment, research opportunities and career openings for students and graduates.
- Support and advise on alumni communications and campaigns activity to ensure appropriate content is shared that celebrates the University’s alumni community, reflects the interests of alumni, is aligned to the strategic priorities of the University and empowers the wider alumni community to act as advocates for the University.
- Support and advise on the opportunities alumni have to engage in the ongoing life of the University as experts or employers, including being an ambassador for volunteering and leading by example in personal volunteering.
- Support and advise on the development of initiatives that promote and develop philanthropic giving to the University.
- Support and advise the University on the services and benefits the University should provide to its alumni community.
- Act as a champion for an agreed strand of alumni engagement activity aligned to university strategy, proactively supporting University initiatives in the area.
Person specification
Essential criteria
- Loughborough University undergraduate or postgraduate degree or evidence of having studied at the University (Loughborough or London campus) for three months or more
- Experience in a management role within a complex organisation
- Experience in leading and managing a team/s
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills
- Excellent alumni and professional networks
- Excellent interpersonal/diplomatic skills with the ability to develop strong relationships.
- Maturity, presence, and personal authority.
- A commitment to professionalism and excellence; drive, initiative, energy, and enthusiasm.
- Ability to think creatively and develop innovative programmes and solutions to problems
- Ability to be able to dedicate sufficient time to the post, including spending time on campus in meetings and at events
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of digital communications, including social media.
- Knowledge of the HE sector and/or of complex organisations.
- Personal experience of volunteering.
- Previous Board experience.
Special conditions
You may, at the sole discretion of the University, be appointed to the University Council, and other Committees as appropriate.
Position requirements
Office will be held for a term of three years from 1 September in the year of election in the first instance which can be renewed for one further term of up to three years.

- The position is open to all UK or international alumni who have studied at Loughborough or the London campus for three months or longer.
- This voluntary position is for a term of three years, starting on 1 September.
- The position is remotely based. Regular meetings are held online (a minimum of four meetings are held annually).
