What better way to find out about life at Loughborough than to hear it from our current students:
Alumni testimonial: Kalpa Perera
Programme of Study at Loughborough and Year of Graduation: Aeronautical Engineering (MEng) 2015 with Diploma in Industrial Studies
What are you doing now? Graduate Engineer and Zodiac Aerospace.
Why did you choose to study at Loughborough University?
The key reason was that it was and is one of the best ranking universities in the UK with the department of Aeronautical and Automotive engineering having its own exceptional rankings and connections with the industry. I also liked the fact that it’s a single site campus based in a very safe town where you have easy access to university, library, lecture rooms, laboratories and shops within a matter of few minutes.
How has Loughborough University inspired you?
Loughborough University inspires its students in many ways as a part of the whole experience you gain. For me it was to achieve more in what I can and to never stop trying until I get to where I want to be.
How has your qualification from Loughborough helped you in your career?
The qualification I gained from Loughborough is accredited by both the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and The Royal Aeronautical Society. This proves the high standards of the course and puts me in-line to achieve chartered engineer qualification without the requirement of any additional academic qualifications. This also helped me to stand out from many other graduates from competitive universities during interviews for graduate roles.
What advice would you give to yourself if you could go back in time before you came to Loughborough?
Put more interest towards sports
Can you tell us more about the company/organisation you are working for currently?
Zodiac Aerospace is a French multinational company that designs and manufacture interiors for commercial aircrafts. The products range from seats of all classes to galleys and toilets.
How did you get here - i.e have you worked for other companies before your current role?
Yes I did a one year placement as an Associate Manufacturing Engineer with GE Measurement and Control (Groby). Here I worked within an aerospace department where they build pressure sensors for aircraft and got the opportunity to experience hand on real world engineering, multinational communications and how a major multinational company functions
What do you love the most about your job?
The chance to always learn something new.
Where do you see yourself going in the future?
First goal would be to be qualified as a chartered engineer, then after few years possibly to move in to a management role.
