I chose to do a Foundation Year because I wanted to strengthen my academic foundation before progressing into a full engineering degree. It gave me the opportunity to develop my understanding of key subjects, adjust to university-level study, and build the confidence I needed to succeed in a demanding engineering programme.
My Foundation Year was one of the most important parts of my university journey. Academically, it helped me develop strong study skills and a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts that would later be essential during my degree. Beyond academics, I made lifelong friends and became part of a supportive community. Some of my favourite memories include social events, night outs with friends, and the supportive environment created by staff in the Foundation Year team. Looking back, it was a year of growth, learning and making connections that lasted throughout my degree.
The transition to the full Electrical and Electronics Engineering programme was much smoother than I expected because the Foundation Year had prepared me so well. I had already developed effective study skills, learned how to manage my time, and gained confidence in approaching technical subjects. While the workload increased, I felt ready for the challenge because of the preparation I received during the Foundation Year.
