I chose to come to Loughborough University due to their prestigious history and industry links. They are also the top-ranking university for my course.

I would say that the best thing about my course is being able to interact and work alongside other professions such as Quantity Surveyors. This is because you’ll start to gauge an understanding as to why their professions are important and needed in the world we live.

I feel that the facilities that are provided to us are amazing as the University are constantly coming up with things that they could implement to improve our student learning.

My favourite module on my course so far is Professional Practice. This is because it allows me to take what I have learnt and put it into action. On this module we are currently completing a project named ‘Making Loughborough’. In this we do further research into Loughborough as a whole. We are delegated different parts of site where we look into the construction history and materials used.

I have received help from various different lecturers on work that they do not teach me. I have found that a lot of lecturers have a wide range of knowledge and are just waiting to be asked questions about anything. I recently was able to get help from my construction technology lecturer on some Law work which I found to be very beneficial.

I will complete a placement year in my third year of studying at Loughborough, in which I hope to go abroad and explore the different construction environments.

Tobe Okonkwo

When I graduate, I plan to get a job at an international construction company which I feel will allow me to work with people all over the world.

I also love the idea that I could travel with this degree and gain work on construction builds around the world. I feel going to Loughborough will support my idea of doing this as they are a prestigious University that are recognised all over the world.

To anyone considering applying for Construction Engineering Management, I would tell them to apply for it as it is a course that allows you to meet and interact with a lot of people on other courses that are also in the built environment. I would also say that if you have an interest in construction to definitely go for it even though it may be difficult nothing great in life comes easy and what other university than Loughborough would it be worthwhile to complete this course.

I find that the social life here is very vibrant and outgoing as the different accommodation halls are always coming up with things to keep everyone smiling and engaging with each other. There are also a lot of societies you are able to join and that just gives people a real sense of belonging.

Tobe looking in the mirror

My favourite thing about being a Loughborough University student?... I would definitely have to say the facilities and the social life. This is because sometimes after a long day of lectures you are able to go to the gym and just work off the stress or attend a class that they may have running. Or meet up with friends and go to the union for an eventful night out. I feel that Loughborough has inspired me to open myself up to the endless opportunities that are available through my course or at the University as a whole and to just strive and demand more within myself and the career that I pursue.
