LU Arts

LU Arts is a student-focused, extra-curricular programme full of creative events and activities for all students to enjoy – regardless of course or skill level.

The LU Arts programme covers a wide range of art forms from pottery, painting and creative writing, to music, dance and drama. You can get involved in hands-on arts and crafts workshops, take part in open mic nights or evening classes, or sit back and relax during special live screenings and talks.

What's on?

We run a programme of weekly taster sessions and events in the Students’ Union called Happy Mondays, which give you the chance to try out a new skill. Workshops have included screen printing, photography, wood turning, pasta making, crochet and song writing. Happy Mondays also showcase the talents of our students through popular events such as Speech Bubble (performance poetry night) and Acoustic Night – both of which are run by students with open mic slots.

LU Arts also runs Radar, a unique, contemporary arts programme which sees artists working alongside and responding to research that is taking place at Loughborough University. The outputs from these projects can include performances, workshops, publications, exhibitions and installations. There are opportunities for students to get involved in these projects – especially those from the Creative Arts School.

On campus we have our very own 260-seat theatre, 213-seat auditorium and 100-seat studio, which can host concerts, film screenings and dance and drama productions. Our facilities also include music practice rooms, a dance studio and exhibition space.

All activities provide great opportunities to learn new skills, gain valuable experience, meet new friends and de-stress. If you’re looking to get involved in the Arts during your time at Loughborough, take a look at this short video which introduces you to everything we can offer.

Scholarships and funding

For those of you looking to develop your talents further, LU Arts offers a package of annual arts scholarships, which include tuition/mentoring as well as cash prizes. Scholarship students contribute to the creative life of the campus by performing at events, championing the arts and organising their own events.

If you can’t find what you are looking for then you can always apply for a student arts grant to fund your own ideas. As well as the funding, we’ll provide practical support in event management and marketing to help get your idea up and running.
