Loughborough Students' Union
Right at the very heart of our award-winning student experience sits Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) which is run entirely by our students, for our students.
Studying for a degree is just one part of student life. As well as being a social hub, Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) offers so many ways to discover new pastimes and passions, become part of a thriving and supportive community, and influence change while developing valuable transferable skills.
During the day, the Union is a bustling and popular meeting place with food outlets and a handy convenience store selling a wide selection of groceries, beverages and household goods. It’s also home to a hair salon, dental practice and pharmacy with a taxi rank just outside if you need to get somewhere in a hurry.
By night, it transforms into a 4,000-capacity nightclub with three separate rooms that host different events across the week. JC's Bar and Kitchen serves up food, drinks and live sport broadcasts. It prides itself on its lively atmosphere and friendly staff who make you feel welcome and at home.
I was actively involved with the Students’ Union and its societies. There really is something for everyone and many opportunities to find your community. Aside from societies, I enjoyed the odd occasion to let my hair down, and the campus itself is safe and secure, with plenty of green spaces to enjoy.

Action
LSU Action provides volunteering opportunities in the local and wider community – including community outreach projects with the elderly and young people, the Language Support Scheme, environmental initiatives and work with animals.
There are also an exciting range of overseas projects in Madagascar, Nepal, Romania and Uganda.
Volunteering with LSU Action is an incredibly rewarding way to gain invaluable experience beyond your studies.
LSU Media
If you want to create, connect or be inspired, LSU Media offers the training, facilities and platform to develop your skills and get involved in student-led storytelling.
Regardless of your skill set or experience, there are opportunities across design, journalism, photography, radio and television.
Working with state-of-the-art equipment, you’ll a dynamic team of creatives, gain real industry experience, and give your CV an invaluable boost.
RAG
If you’ve ever wondered what the acronym RAG stands for, it’s “Raising and Giving”. LSU RAG manages all kinds of fundraising initiatives, contributing more than £1 million every year to local, national and international charities.
There are so many ways to get involved and support some excellent causes – trekking Kilimanjaro or the Atlas Mountains, skydiving, international marathons, the National Three Peaks challenge...
If you’d prefer to get involved in a more sedate way, RAG’s campus events include fireworks displays and outdoor cinema screenings.
Our societies
LSU has an (almost) A-Z of clubs and societies. So, there’s something to suit every interest. If you think something’s missing – the Union can help you launch your own to plug the gap!
These student-run groups are a fantastic way to get stuck into the campus student experience. With their strong sense of community, there’s no better way to make new friends with like-minded people.
Peer-to-peer support
LSU’s Welfare and Diversity team are committed to providing a voice to under-represented student groups, while promoting positive health and wellbeing across campus.
They offer support across a wide range of issues including homesickness, stress, financial concerns and accommodation problems.
Their friendly and supportive peer-to-peer services, such as Nightline and the Ethnic Minorities Network, help students to feel a sense of community, belonging and safety.
By empowering diverse groups – including our international, LGBT+ and disabled student communities – they ensure that everyone feels encouraged and inspired during their time here with us.
LSU Advice
LSU Advice is a free, independent, confidential and non-judgemental service that supports students and doctoral researchers, guiding them through a range of issues including appeals, complaints and disciplinary offences.
