The Art and Design Foundation Studies Year is broken into 3 parts. In part 1, you will experience each of the four key disciplines (fashion and textiles, visual communication, fine art, and 3D design) before choosing where to specialise. Your chosen specialism will determine your undergraduate progression route, so you may want to discuss this with your tutor.

Part 1: Diagnostic Investigation into Creative Practice

Part 1 is 9 weeks long and offers students an introduction to workshops and lectures – exploring drawing, photography, 3D/2D design. You will also rotate around the specialist areas (Fine Art, 3D Design, Visual communication and Fashion/Textiles.)

Part 2: Developing Specialist Practice

Part 2 takes place over the course of 12 weeks and students are able to specialise in their chosen discipline. At this point students also begin UCAS applications and portfolio preparation.

Part 3: Consolidating Practice

Part 3 of the course is 9 weeks long - here students undertake a self-directed Final Major Project. Students are able to exhibit at the Foundation exhibition which runs alongside the Arts Degree Show.
