Research Skills and Methodologies
The aim of this module is for students to develop an understanding of the philosophical and methodological underpinnings of the research process and to gain experience of formulating appropriate research questions, research designs, proposals and analytic techniques for conducting research in sport, coaching, physical education and management.
Sports Law, Equity and Inclusion
The aims of this module are to develop an understanding of the legal principles underpinning sports law and its practice, and related issues of equity, inclusion and exclusion in sports.
Sport Management in Practice
The aims of this module are to prepare students for a career in sports business and management by developing and enabling them to apply their business knowledge, skills and attributes to practical management activities and to enhance their self-awareness, personal development and general transferable skills appropriate to graduate careers both within and beyond sports management in the global workplace.
Human Resource Management in Sports Organisations
The aims of this module are to:
- To build on the pre-requisite module.
- To examine critically the role of the Human Resource Management (HRM) function within the contemporary organisation.
- To develop a clear understanding of the role of the HRM function in maintaining an equitable relationship between employer and employee.
Sport Marketing
The aim is to further enhance knowledge and understanding of marketing principles in sport and leisure by examining core elements of the marketing planning process within sports organisations.
Economic Analysis of Sport
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Acquire a basic grounding in modern microeconomics.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the key economic issues affecting economics in the sport industry.
- Explain the principles and microeconomic foundations of innovation.
- Understand the logic of how markets operate and their main properties for firms in the Sport Industry.
- Understand the rationale of consumer behaviour and profit maximisation by firms.
Accounting for Managers
The aims of this module are to:
- To introduce students to a range of technical and analytical skills.
- To illustrate the application of analysis in a business context.
- To evaluate the use of accounting and financial management in planning, decision-making and control.
Optional modules
Coaching Process and Practice
The aims of this module are for students to examine coaching effectiveness and the complexity of the coaching process and to be able to apply and demonstrate this theoretical knowledge in practice in authentic coaching contexts.
Conceptualising Sport
The aim of this module is to develop a critical understanding of more advanced social scientific concepts which combine to form the basis of social theories and perspectives used in the analysis of sport and physical cultures in modern societies across the world.
Physical Activity and Health
The aim of this module is for students to develop knowledge, critical understanding and skills relating to physical activity, sedentary behaviour and health.
