Pre-collection: Prototyping and Conceptual Development

The aims of this module are to:

  • Apply ideas in a new context and investigate processes which extend technical knowledge and understanding of fashion and other relevant materials.
  • Create informed experimental design ideas derived from research and investigation into processes applicable to individual practice.
  • Take ownership and apply independent methods during the research, design, development and manufacture of fashion garments.

Final Major Project: Advanced Fashion Concepts

The aims of this module are to:

  • Produce a collection of contemporary garments that consider function, traditional craft and the assimilation of new technologies.
  • Develop an original concept that challenges the field of fashion and promotes the opportunity to advance the use of materials and technology.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of an intended target audience and markets to develop new narratives, uses and visual aesthetics of fashion.
  • Produce a professional portfolio of work that challenges traditional fashion contexts and present this in an imaginative display suitable for a degree showcase.
  • Develop outcomes to a professional standard to promote and engage with industry.

Optional modules

Dissertation

The aims of this module are to:

  • Give students the opportunity to select, design and conduct independent research on a topic relevant to their creative practice, degree programme or career aspirations.
  • Equip students with the relevant skills, knowledge and understanding to embark on their independent research.
  • Enable students to develop their organisational skills in planning, time management, preparing and producing an extended written account of their work.
  • Guide students in developing a specialist understanding of their chosen topic and the communication skills to convey this understanding in a rigorous and compelling way.

Industrial Report

The aims of this module are to:

  • Provide students with the opportunity to originate, negotiate and assume responsibility for the production of independent research in an area of industry related to their creative practice.
  • Enable students to identify and critically engage with specific concepts related to their area of industry through a rigorous exploration of its practical and contemporaneous framework: formal, social, cultural, political, environmental, technological and industrial contexts.
  • Develop organisational skills in planning, researching, preparing and revising a substantial piece of written work.
  • Enable the students to pursue an industry-focused route in a way that may enhance and inform their own studio practice.
