At Loughborough University we understand the importance of inspiring future scientists and engineers. The solutions to global challenges will be driven by the STEM graduates of tomorrow. The UK economy will be built on their involvement in the shaping of new technologies and upon their scientific discoveries and endeavours.
STEMLab exists not only to enhance the learning experience of our current students, but to build upon the University's long-standing and highly successful outreach work to engage school-age students in STEM subjects by providing inspiring opportunities for hands-on engagement with science, engineering and technology.
STEM Community Day 2018
Loughborough's annual STEM Community Day aims to inspire all ages: from budding astrophysicists and mathematicians, to those with with a wild imagination and a thirst for trying new things.
Offering a wide variety of fun, informal and (best of all) free activities and demonstrations relating to the University's STEM subjects, supported by our academic staff and students, our STEM Community Day is great for families and provides an excellent opportunity to get hands-on with science and engineering at Loughborough.
This year we will be throwing open the doors to STEMLab as various laboratories, workshops and studios in the building will host a range of captivating activies from biomechanics and microscopic mini-beasts to flight simulation and virtual reality.
The event will take place on Saturday 21st April, 1pm-5pm, and is free to attend, although we advise registration for space-limited timed workshops.
For more information about this year's STEM Community Day (and to register), visit the Schools and College Liaison website.
Loughborough's Schools and College Liaison team host a number of events throughout the academic year to give students a flavour of university learning.
These events also allow them to spend some time on a university campus. These events and activities are designed to highlight some of the fantastic opportunities that Higher Education has to offer prospective students and young people. Often, they also help to de-mystify some of the perceived barriers and obstacles related to studying at university.
