There are a range of services that can help you with your academic experience at Loughborough University.

Academic Language Support Service

The Academic Language Support Service provides a range of academic language and study skills support through a range of workshops and online support options. The service aims to help you with your academic writing to achieve academic success and personal development.

Our goal is to enable you to:

  • Communicate effectively through clear and coherent articulation of your ideas;
  • Understand and critically engage with the ideas of others; and
  • Understand academic expectations and audiences, and use appropriate academic language, adhering to academic conventions in the process. 

Whether you are an undergraduate, postgraduate taught or PhD student, we want to help you achieve your full academic potential. You can access resources, group and 1:1 support from the award-winning Academic Language Support Service.

University Library

The University Library is not only a place to study or to borrow books; it can support your learning in many other ways.

There are a range of online resources providing further information about referencing and citation, how to improve your research skills, as well as top tips for studying. You can: 

Academic Librarians are available to assist all University students, offering specialist advice on any information-related query including research skills, referencing, conducting a literature review and getting published. Academic Librarians can be contacted by e-mail or via MS Teams.

They can also offer individual appointments to support more in-depth or complex queries, such as how to start researching a particular topic, advice on referencing or using a specialist online search tool or database.

The Library offers a wide programme of courses and training opportunities for students, doctoral researchers and academic and research staff. Keep an eye out on their ‘Events and Workshops’ page for more details.

Student Success Academy

The Student Success Academy aims to ensure more students are offered opportunities to level up with their peers, access mentoring and support to tackle disadvantages around academic success and employment outcomes.  

They offer a wide range of personalised opportunities and tailored programmes to help you unlock your full potential during your time at University.

Focusing on skills development across all stages of the student journey, the Academy shines a spotlight on key transitions such as starting your degree, stepping up to final-year, and becoming a graduate.

LSU Advice

LSU Advice is a free, independent, confidential and non-judgmental service available for students and doctoral researchers at Loughborough University and Loughborough University London.

The Service can advise students experiencing difficulties with their academic experience, both formally and informally. It is dedicated to helping you gain a better understanding of university policies and regulations, both in terms of your rights and responsibilities.
