Your Wellbeing

‌‌‌University can be a fun, exciting and rewarding time. However, it can also be stressful; this may be due to the pressures of your course,  relationship issues, financial difficulties and/or for a variety of other factors, such as living independently.  University Support Services are here to help you deal with such problems, supporting you to remove sources of anxiety and ensuring that you achieve your full potential.  You can find more information that will support you in your journey to wellbeing below.


It is important to be able to take responsibility for your health and wellbeing; being resilient will involve adapting to different circumstances and finding ways to handle issues you may face. 

Mind give some useful tips on resilience and everyday living.  It can be helpful to think about ways of being more resilient whilst also accepting that sometimes you may need to ask for help and in doing so you are playing a positive and active part in improving your wellbeing.

Living Well

Your personal physical and emotional wellbeing are important.  University life can be very different to what you have been previously accustomed to:  it may be your first time living away from home; the first time you have had to manage your own finances; your first experience of independent academic study; and the first time you are living and working with people from entirely different backgrounds who may not share your perspective or beliefs.  

A change in lifestyle may cause stresses and challenges that could in turn compromise your wellbeing.

The NHS Website Live Well offers a variety of interactive resources and information designed to support you in your journey towards both physical and emotional wellbeing.  You can also access various self-assessment tools with suggestions on what practical steps to take to improve your wellbeing.

Nutrition & Exercise

Positive lifestyle factors such as nutrition and exercise are associated with improved wellbeing and lower incidence of anxiety and/or depression.  

The NHS Website provides information on food & diet, as well as health & fitness, such as: how to cut down on sugar; eating a balanced diet; running tips for beginners; and workout videos.  

Sport is a huge element of the Loughborough experience; we pride ourselves on catering for all students, regardless of ability or expertise.   Become involved by attending any of the free 'my lifestyle' activities, classes, or events; by joining a gym or a team.

Healthy Relationships


  • Communication, Respect, Support and Compromise are essential aspects of healthy relationships.
  • Consent is a fundamental aspect of a healthy relationship.

Consent is defined as when: ‘A person consents if they agree "by choice, and has the freedom and capacity to make that choice."’ (NUS Consent Workshops).
