Academic Language Support Service

It doesn’t matter what your background is, no-one’s first language is academic English and the academic skills and conventions used in UK universities like Loughborough can be different from what you might be used to. The Academic Language Support Service’s exhibition stand showcased a range of academic language and study skills support available to doctoral research students.  

Careers Network

The Careers Network team works closely with academic schools and professional services to ensure that every doctoral researcher has access to outstanding careers advice, coaching, employability support and development opportunities. Career Coaching sessions are also available to doctoral researchers and university staff in all Schools to help identify strengths, explore careers options, discuss opportunities and progress career planning.  Our PhD Futures support will help doctoral researchers on their career journey, whether they intend to stay within academia or spread their wings beyond.  

Centre for Postdoctoral Development in Infrastructure, Cities and Energy (C-DICE)

C-DICE is a world-class postdoctoral development programme which leverages the capability of 18 leading research-intensive UK universities. C-DICE aims to build and sustain the advanced skills base required to create a pipeline of world-class talent for the Infrastructure, Cities and Energy sectors, and accelerate progress towards a net-zero society by 2050.  C-DICE supports researcher development, irrespective of discipline area.

Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) Skills Academy

ERA Skills provides a holistic energy-related skills provision to develop high quality energy workforce; to create a diverse talent pipeline to secure the UK’s position as a leader in energy research and innovation; and to facilitate knowledge transfer between researchers and industry to help accelerate the downstream impact of ERA-related research. 

Institute of Advanced Studies

The Institute of Advanced Studies aims to promote an outstanding, interdisciplinary research environment at Loughborough by supporting collaborations with leading international scholars from other institutions.

IT Services

IT Services provides help, advice, and support for all IT related services.  We are also keen for you to tell us about your IT experiences and share what new services and support you would like to see.

Intellectual Property Management & Commercialisation  

The Intellectual Property Management & Commercialisation team can help researchers with their enterprise activity by assessing and developing ideas arising from their research which have the potential for commercial use or societal or environmental benefit. We then develop and implement plans to bring these ideas to market through licensing or SpinOuts. 

Library

We have helpful staff who are happy to help you use the Library resources we provide whether you are in the building itself or if you are studying remotely, including academic librarians for each of the schools on campus.

PhD Social Support Network  

The PhD Social Support Network is a doctoral researchers-led group that aims to support fellow Loughborough doctoral researchers through their PhD journey. We do this by organising social events (dinners, movie nights, pub nights, trips, end-of-term parties…), health & fitness activities (weekly runs on campus, football…), arts & culture activities (theatre nights, dinners, book clubs…) and other activities. 

Pint of Science

Passionate about science? Public outreach?... The national Pint of Science is a fun public engagement event open to researchers at all levels!

Policy Unit  

The Policy Unit provides a channel for the university's research and researchers to realise productive and beneficial impact on public policy, at local, national, and international level. 

Research Ideas Catalogue – Knowledge & Impact (RIC-KI) 

Are you interested in finding new collaborative research projects? RIC-KI is a collaborative research platform from Loughborough University that links researchers across the world for projects in health, wellbeing and sport.

Loughborough materials characterisation centre (LMCC)  

LMCC is an established university facility, housing £7.5M of characterisation equipment including electron microscopy, surface analysis and x-ray diffraction. We aim to enabling ground-breaking research, education and partnerships within Loughborough University and beyond. The centre It is supported by 5 experienced members of staff, comprising of Research Fellows, Experimental Specialists and Technicians. The LMCC can support researchers thoughout the research cycle from costing and developing proposals, collecting publishable results and where appropriate assist in writing publications.
