Partnership Overview

Spirit of 2012 was the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games social legacy organization founded by the National Lottery Community Fund with an endowment of £47m. Spirit of 2012 closes formally in January 2026, and beyond this point Loughborough University will be the custodian to information about the projects Spirit of 2012 funded, the research they commissioned, and the insights and lessons generated from over a decade of work.

Spirit of 2012 believed that enabling people to participate in a wide range of activities and engaging in their communities will:

  • Improve the wellbeing of individuals, communities and society as a whole;
  • Improve perceptions towards disability and impairment;
  • Lead to greater social cohesion and understanding.

Join us in shaping the next phase, where Spirit of 2012’s beliefs, ambitions, and evidence continue to inform innovative practice, reflective thinking, and inclusive planning. Events remain central to this journey, offering powerful platforms to promoting long-term social impacts.
