The food tech manufacturing company partnered with AI specialists at Loughborough University to create a unique sandwich-making robot featuring the latest embedded artificial intelligence technology.
The project was led by Professor Baihua Li, Professor of Computer Vision and Machine Learning at Loughborough. Professor Li and her team of researchers developed machine vision and embedded artificial intelligence technology to teach AI robots how to differentiate between food items so they can make sandwiches in real-world factory environments.
The project aimed to take robotic technology to the next level of intelligence whilst driving innovation for high care food manufacturing and helping food manufacturers to reduce costs and improve production quality and efficiency. The first intelligent Hygienic Delta robot was deployed in 2020 in one of the UK’s biggest sandwich-making factories. It produces an astounding 750,000 sandwiches a day!
As a finalist in the ‘Innovation in Food and Drink’ category, Millitec has been nominated for delivering innovative new technologies and solutions to major challenges within the food industry.
