Anna-Marie did her bachelor's degree in English Studies and it inspired her to want to study abroad in England. After seeing the call for applications by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, she knew immediately she had to apply!

"Without the scholarship, I would not have been able to pursue my dream of studying abroad, especially when considering the various complications associated with Brexit and my own financial situation. Therefore, I am very grateful for this priceless possibility," she said.

"I had heard about Loughborough University in the context of the various sports-related programmes that it offers. However, before applying for the scholarship, I did some more research which confirmed my positive perception of the University. However, I was pleasantly surprised and fascinated by the Loughborough’s achievements beyond sports, in particular by the level of its research."

She says her first impressions of the campus were very positive...even if a little overwhelming.

"I am still quite overwhelmed by the sheer size of the campus and the numerous sports grounds. Additionally, I am highly impressed by the neatness and modernity of the campus as well as of all the buildings."

About her master's programme, she said:

"I am enrolled in the MA programme Contemporary Literature and Culture, and so far I am very happy with the studies. We are a rather small group, which ensures an intimate and friendly atmosphere during the sessions and encourages lively discussions. In various regards, studying in England differs from the studies in Germany, but I am looking forward to getting to know a new side of academia and to sharing the experiences I made as a student in Germany.

"I am hoping to further pursue my interest and passion for literary and cultural studies, especially with regard to topical issues such as the ongoing pandemic or the climate crisis. Moreover, the MA programme at Loughborough University focuses on gaining practical experience and, therefore, I believe that I will be able to numerous acquire skills and competences that will be highly beneficial for my further career. Of course, I also anticipate making friends and forging new connections."

She is considering pursuing a further academic career and doing a PhD in the literary and cultural field.

"Nevertheless, the MA programme at Loughborough University involves a discussion and exploration of areas that I could also imagine working in, for instance marketing or the publishing industry."
