We are delighted to announce that PhD student Dua’a Hamdan has been awarded this year’s Dennis Holt Travel Prize, recognising her significant academic progress and the strength of her proposal outlining how travel would enhance her research and personal development.

The Dennis Holt Travel Prize is a £400 scholarship awarded annually to a student from the School of Design and Creative Arts who, in the opinion of the assessor panel, has demonstrated notable progress throughout their course and presented the most compelling proposal for how travel could support their learning and future aspirations.

Dua’a applied for the award to help fund her attendance at an academic conference in Germany, where she presented her first PhD research paper. The conference focused on innovative and intelligent mobility solutions and their applications for diverse user groups, exploring themes such as transport modes, user needs, and safety systems.

Speaking about the experience, Dua’a said:

“Attending this conference was a crucial opportunity for me to gather expert feedback and diverse perspectives. My research bridges multiple disciplines, and engaging with specialists in these areas was vital for refining my work and understanding its broader impact.

Presenting my first PhD research paper was a significant milestone in my academic journey. The experience provided valuable exposure, strengthened my research and personal skills, and fostered collaborations that will support my ongoing and future work.”

She added her thanks for the support she received from the Transport Safety Research Centre (TSRC) and the School Fund for Doctoral Researchers within SDCA, both of which contributed to making this opportunity possible.
