This year’s brief challenged participants to design a multi-tile repeating carpet tile using Milliken’s proprietary Millitron® digital patterning technology. Taking inspiration from the Southbank residential tower in Battersea, a striking 20-storey development on the Thames, the students explored themes of culture, community, and connectivity in their designs.
Throughout the project, students were mentored by the Milliken design team, who provided expert guidance on both the creative process and the practicalities of manufacturability. The winning entries were then transformed into real carpet tiles and unveiled at Milliken’s London Showroom during the London Design Festival, a unique opportunity for students to see their ideas brought to life in a professional design setting.
The 2025 winners are:
- 1st place – Dylan Walters
- 2nd place – Hannah Bennison
- 3rd place – Emily Brazier
- 3rd place – Laura Berezenko
The celebration in September was a fantastic moment to reflect on their achievements and the continued strength of the partnership between Milliken and Loughborough.
We are deeply grateful to Milliken for their support of the Loughborough University Textiles programme since 2019, and extend a special thank you to Kerry Cottam, Helen Lloyd, and Urva Soni for their dedication and invaluable contributions to our students’ success.
