3-Dimensional Design Specialism

My chosen focus in this project was to explore and investigate the properties and potential of plastics within a creative structure. I used a range of deconstructive processes to explore plastics using techniques such as cutting, shattering, scoring, bending, tearing and ripping. Researching different joining methods, such as stitching and slotting, enabled me to explore different methods of connecting the plastics related to the development of a structural and aesthetic form. In response to my research, I decided to focus on exploring the properties of polypropylene, acetate and acrylic. These materials were cut into equal sized squares then scored and bent to create geometrical patterns. I then explored the impact light would have on my work by investigating shadows and how they distorted and extended the work.
