User centred design underpins Luke's research which began with a Design Research PhD by project that investigated that in spite of demonstrable improvements in bus services, travel by bus remained unpopular for certain socio-economic groups. The project explored the role design and research has in closing the credibility gap and informing a better understanding of the perception of the bus.

Research work through design includes action-based industry project for Defra to design and trial solutions to increase product longevity and creating Joyful Journeys through design.
