Junuka Deshpande
Statement
My artistic inquiry explores urban transformation at an underpass construction site in suburban India through observational drawing. Engaging with soil, cement, and sensory experience amid everyday flux. I examine interactions between place, people, and nature. The practice challenges boundaries between site and paper, embracing temporality, materiality, and vulnerability in transition.
Bio
As an artist and educator, my practice is rooted in observation and shaped by drawing, sound, and material play, I explore affective, vulnerable dimensions of inner and outer worlds. With a background in documentary filmmaking, I critique representational hierarchies in the process of image-making through my work. I teach at Srishti Manipal, Bangalore, India.
