Lisanne Sloots
Statement
Walking outside in nature, seeing the mosses, feeling the air, knowing that they grow only because of clean air, feeling the inside of my own body, in-out, the movement and translate what I see and feel into my hand that moves the charcoal from the place where I am.
Bio
Lisanne Sloots constructs 'inner landscapes' in which her use of materials play an inseparable connection. Instead of buying charcoal, she burns branches she has found herself into charcoal. These materials have a long history and their own story.
In 2020, Sloots published the book Houtskool, in which she reports on her (historical) study of the eponymous material.
