Rachael Colley
Statement
Rachael suffers from systemic sclerosis, a degenerative autoimmune condition that causes internal skins and connective tissues to atrophy over time, which has affected her GI tract and led to disordered eating. She communicates aspects of these challenges through material experimentation, creating ambiguous artefact assemblages which explore basic bodily interactions.
Bio
Rachael is a senior lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University and doctoral researcher at Loughborough University. Her art practice explores somatic eating actions and the use of food waste across drawing and sculpture, highlighting issues surrounding food consumption through workshops, exhibitions and visual art projects.
