Statement

Score IV encapsulates the place and process of its making. The paper is progressively marked, enacted by the brain, body and pencil, the surface records actions through pencil lines. The drawing reveals the effects of pressed graphite, beach undulations and shifting body weight, as they impress into the fibres; a re-action/reaction to lived acts.

Bio

Caroline Wright’s practice explores identity and loss, questioning how we can hold onto things through making, referencing place attachment theory. Through her site-specific drawings, made on an eroding coast, she investigates how we might describe, grasp and retain a sense of place to stabilise forged identities in the face of change.
