Statement

Underwater, in ocean, somatic, cognitive and aesthetic senses are ignited and sharpened. Mark-making reifies feeling; recordings of sensuous experience, each layer a fragment of remembered terrain or sensation. Assembled together, they enter into collective dialogues. I draw underneath, over surfaces, kindling a new spatial experience akin to diving, swimming.

Kristy foregrounds time, attention and contemplation as a critical aesthetic approach to contemporary speed culture. Repetitive mark-making and embodied, gestural drawing mediate felt sensations of place, space and atmosphere and foster connection between body, mind and world. By drawing with everyday materialities she reveals their novel slow affective potential.
