Dr Mumin Abubakre represented Loughborough Business School at the prestigious International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) 2025, held in December in Nashville, Tennessee.

ICIS is widely regarded as the premier global gathering for the Information Systems (IS) discipline, drawing leading researchers and practitioners together to explore the latest developments shaping the field.

As part of the conference, Dr Abubakre collaborated with Assistant Professor Sara Memarian (University of Texas), Assistant Professor Alaa Nehme (Mississippi State University) and Professor Seung Hyun Kim (Yonsei University, Seoul) in the highly competitive Paper‑a‑thon. The team was award ‘Outstanding Performance’, earning recognition from the judging panel for the quality and originality of their contribution.

The group’s proposal, titled “Secure but Not Accountable: How AI Coding Interface Cues Shape Developers’ Security Verification,” examined how design choices in AI coding interfaces influence developers’ security‑related behaviours.

Their work bridges key areas including artificial intelligence, human–computer interaction, accountability, and secure software development. The judges commended the project for its potential to advance understanding of how interface cues can guide, or hinder, secure coding practices.

The Paper‑a‑thon was led by internationally recognised scholars Professor Jan Recker (University of Hamburg), Professor Atreyi Kankanhalli (National University of Singapore), and Professor Suprateek Sarker (University of Virginia), who created a highly supportive environment for nurturing promising early‑stage research ideas.

Alongside the Paper‑a‑thon success, Dr Abubakre also contributed to the conference in an academic leadership capacity, serving as an Associate Editor for the Public IS and Infrastructures track and chairing one of the presentation sessions.

Reflecting on his role at the conference, Dr Abubakre said: “Participation in ICIS 2025 has been an excellent way to strength the global reputation of both Loughborough Business School and the Information Management Group.

“This has given us the opportunity to expand international research networks and bring back cutting‑edge insights to enrich teaching and collaborative projects within Loughborough Business school.”
