Jessie Macneil-Brown and Professor Michelle Richey speak to a lecture theatre.

Loughborough Business School welcomed Jessie Macneil-Brown, Head of Social Mission & Activism Europe at Ben & Jerry's, to discuss the importance of purpose-led business and building meaningful, long-standing connections with communities.

Jessie has spent her career demonstrating that businesses can be powerful forces for social change, from Amnesty International to The Body Shop, IKEA, and now Ben & Jerry's. She specializes in co-creating innovative programmes that place lived experience at the heart of business strategy, mobilizing millions around issues from refugee inclusion to women's rights.

Her presentation, entitled ‘From ice cream to impact: Building bridges in polarised times’, drew on her experiences at the forefront of values-driven business innovation to highlight the essential role organisations can play In driving positive social change.

Invited to speak by Dr Michelle Richey as part of a new ‘Inspiring Speaker’ series, Jessie’s talk aimed to encourage socially conscious Business School students with practical examples of the roles and opportunities available to shape the future of purpose-led business.

Discussing her motivation for extending the invitation, Dr Richey said: "Jessie really stands out as an optimistic and inspiring voice among organizations trying to make a difference. It's difficult to maintain that kind of positive leadership when the world is becoming more challenging and divisive.

"Our students are actively seeking out companies that take action when it comes to climate and social issues. The stories Jessie shared brought to life how to engage people with issues without making things too dark or heavy. We look forward to welcoming the Ben & Jerry's team back to Loughborough Business School in 2026!"

Jessie added: "Universities set the stage for the next generation of purpose-driven leaders, which is why I loved sharing my career story and thoughts on building bridges in polarised times here at the Business School. The energy in the room and the sharp questions from students demonstrated their passion and enthusiasm for the topic."
