Dr Amanda Harrington of Loughborough Business School joined a panel of fellow experts at the recent Institute of Asset Management Conference to discuss the value of apprenticeships for developing asset management talent.

The Institute of Asset Management (the IAM) is the international professional body for asset management professionals. The IAM develops asset management knowledge and best practices and generates awareness of the benefits of the discipline for individuals, organizations, and wider society.

Eight of our apprentices, already experienced asset managers, were in attendance, as were Amanda Harrington, Programme Lead for our new Asset Management apprenticeship, along with Eriko Cochrane and Lucy O’Shea from the Loughborough Business School apprenticeship team.

Dr Harrington spoke on a panel about the future development of asset managers. She highlighted the value of blending on-campus learning with practical application and additional ‘stretch’ learning on the job.

Dr Harrington said: “Loughborough is the only university offering Level 7 Infrastructure Asset Management Professional with an additional MSc pathway. At the Business School, we have extensive experience providing professional education to a wide range of businesses, and that gives us a really strong insight into the needs of industry.

“A lot of employers we speak to think that the Apprenticeship Levy is just another tax, but it’s an opportunity to develop the talent of the future for your business. Whether you are a large or small company, whether you have paid into the Levy or not, you are entitled to funding towards recognised apprenticeship training for your people.

“Apprenticeships are a fantastic tool for equipping staff with much needed leadership skills, and 2025 is the last year that companies can use the Apprenticeship Levy to pay for managers over 22 years old to attend. Don’t miss out on your chance to make use of it!”
