London Tech Week brings together visionary leaders from technology, innovation, academia, and policy to explore the future of technology. The event served as a critical forum to explore emerging digital landscapes and drive forward ethical, sustainable, and impactful technology use, a core principle of the CIM’s mission of purpose-driven, responsible technological innovation.
During the event, Dr Abubakre joined Martin Labbe, Tech Sector Development Coordinator and Programme Manager at the International Trade Centre (ITC), to explore a collaborative project for the UK Trade Partnership – South Africa Green Tech initiative.
This exciting prospective project aligns with the CIM’s research on digital inclusion, green technology, and the broader digital innovation ecosystem in the Global South.
Dr Abubakre said: “It’s incredibly exciting to initiate these discussions with others who are just as committed to exploring better ways of doing business. Our conversations revealed a compelling opportunity for long-term collaboration between the CIM and ITC, connecting green technology, entrepreneurship, and digital equity.
“We had the chance to examine how digital innovation, grounded in responsible and ethical data practices, can drive inclusive trade, digital decarbonisation, and tangible impact at the community level.
“At the CIM, our strength lies in making a real-world difference through research, anchored in four pillars: our historic excellence, global standing, and pioneering work in digital decarbonisation, social media ethics, and technologies for socioeconomic development.”
The early-stage discussions between the CIM and ITC during London Tech Week have opened a promising avenue for collaborative research, policy engagement, and capacity building. We hope to continue these efforts to create purposeful progress in the areas of digital development and green technology across Africa and beyond.
