Ana Blanco is a Reader in Advanced Construction Materials and Methods and Director of Doctoral Programmes in the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering at Loughborough University. She is also Deputy Director of the Civil Engineering Group.

Ana joined Loughborough University in 2018 as a Lecturer and became Reader in Advanced Construction Materials and Methods in 2024. She previously worked at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, where she completed her BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering and PhD in Construction Engineering. Her doctoral research focused on the characterisation and modelling of fibre-reinforced cementitious composites. During this period, she was a visiting researcher at Delft University of Technology and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. She was also a founding partner of a spin-out consultancy in Spain.

Ana is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Concrete Technology, the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib), as well as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is a member of the UK Young Academy and serves as Editor of the international journal Construction and Building Materials. She is also involved in national and international research networks and professional committees in the fields of concrete, sustainability, self-healing materials and digital fabrication.

Alongside her research, Ana contributes to the strategic development of doctoral education and civil engineering at Loughborough University through her leadership roles as Director of Doctoral Programmes and Deputy Lead of the Civil Engineering Group.
