Emma Wiggs MBE Awarded Honorary Doctorate at Loughborough University Ceremony

The Peter Harrison Centre would like to congratulate Paralympian Emma Wiggs MBE on receiving her Honorary Doctorate during this years summer graduation programme.

We are delighted to share that Paralympic champion Emma Wiggs MBE joined us at Loughborough University to receive an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of her outstanding achievements in sport and her advocacy for equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Emma is a triple Paralympic gold medalist and 12-time world champion in paracanoe. Her journey from overcoming life-changing illness to becoming one of the most decorated athletes in her sport is a powerful testament to resilience and determination. Beyond her sporting success, Emma has made a significant impact through her work with the Women’s Sports Trust and the ‘Unlocked’ programme, challenging barriers and inspiring change across the sporting world.

Her collaboration with Loughborough University has enriched research, education, and student experience, particularly through her involvement with the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport and UK Sport-funded projects.

We are proud to honour Emma Wiggs MBE with the degree of Doctor of the University, honoris causa, and grateful that she could join us to celebrate this special occasion.
