The PHC welcomes Yunuo Su to Loughborough University

The Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport welcomes Yunuo Su to the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University

During my undergraduate studies on BEd sports training degree at Capital University of Physical Education and Sports (China), I found that physical exercise is a way to get healthy, but for people with limited mobility, overweight, and joint pain, they need feasible passive interventions to replace active exercise. This has pursued me to be interested in the study of the role of passive intervention in promoting human health and its application.

To improve my understanding of sports science research, I have completed an MSc in Musculoskeletal Sport Science and Health within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University. In my graduate research project, I learned about heat therapy for the first time. The positive effects of it on health aroused my great interest in conducting a further study. Although heat therapy has been proven effective by increasing research, most studies use male participants. In some research, gender differences are even ignored.

From October 2021, I will be undertaking a PhD project supervised by Dr Christof Leicht and Dr Emma O'Donnell and funded by China Scholarship Council (CSC). I will be working toward understanding the unique female physiology and the female specific diseases that aim to investigate heat therapy and its effects on females, with a special focus on the physiological results, perception, and its benefits to health conditions. I would like my research can help females with mobility impairments improve their health and quality of life.
