New research on the living standards of young adults in the West Midlands

Dr Ruth Webber has been awarded funding to carry out new research on the living standards of young adults in the West Midlands, transitioning out of homelessness focusing on the impact of low benefit rates.

This qualitative research, funded by St Basil’s Youth Hub Charity in Birmingham and the West Midlands Combined Authority, aims to use photographic methods, using images taken by participants to facilitate discussion about living standards to generate a more holistic picture of how their everyday lives and transitions into work and independent housing are affected by low income. Katherine Hill and Professor Donald Hirsch will also be engaged on the project.
