Professor Cavalaro is a senior academic in the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering at Loughborough University. He has an extensive record of successful collaboration across academia, government and industry, driving innovation and supporting transformation in the built environment sector.
His expertise spanning construction, buildings and infrastructure will support robust policy development at MHCLG and help shape long-term reform across the sector. He will also provide advice and support to the Building Safety Regulator.
The appointment fulfils the Government’s commitment to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 recommendation to appoint a CCSA. This role combines the responsibilities of the Chief Construction Adviser and the Chief Scientific Adviser.

Professor Cavalaro was appointed through an open Civil Service recruitment process. He will operate on a full-time basis.
