Professor Janet Godsell appointed Dean of Loughborough’s School of Business and Economics

Professor Janet Godsell has been appointed as the new Dean of Loughborough University’s School of Business and Economics.

Currently Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Strategy at WMG, University of Warwick, she will take up her new role in September 2021.

Professor Godsell's career has been split between both industry and academia. She joined WMG in October 2013 following a position as Reader at Cranfield University School of Management. She has advised government and industry on supply chain strategy and its relationship to industrial and business strategy, has served on numerous advisory boards, and is currently a member of the Made Smarter Expert Panel and Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund Advisory Group.

As well as academic success, Professor Godsell has held many senior positions in industry. Her career began with a role at ICI/Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, and following this she worked up to senior management level at Dyson, in both supply chain and operations management functions. Whilst at Dyson she undertook a number of operational and process improvement roles within R&D, customer logistics, purchasing, and manufacturing. Professor Godsell is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the IMechE.

Speaking about her appointment, Professor Godsell said: “I want to make a difference to the world and work best in environments of change. Whether this is transforming the performance of a factory, a supply chain, my research group or my Directorate. 

“I am really excited to join Loughborough University and the School of Business and Economics, especially at such an exciting time with a new University strategy imminent and to work with colleagues to make a great School into one that is truly excellent. One that is an integral part of the University and challenges its students and staff to make a difference to the world."

Loughborough’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Allison, added: “We are delighted that Professor Godsell will be joining us in this role. Her experience in both industry and academia will bring real benefit to the School. I have no doubt that Professor Godsell’s vision, enthusiasm and knowledge will be incredibly valuable both in the role as Dean of the School of Business and Economics and across the wider University.”
