Profile
Mark Faghy is a Professor of Clinical Exercise Physiology and an internationally recognised expert in respiratory health, rehabilitation, and Long COVID. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms and long-term impacts of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, with a particular emphasis on translating scientific evidence into practical strategies that improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
He leads a pioneering, interdisciplinary research programme investigating Long COVID, including some of the UK’s first and most influential clinical trials exploring potential treatments such as antiviral therapies. His work integrates clinical science with the lived experiences of patients to better understand symptoms such as fatigue, breathlessness, and post-exertional malaise, and to inform more effective rehabilitation pathways.
Marks expertise spans respiratory physiology, clinical exercise science, rehabilitation, and public health. He regularly collaborates with national and international organisations including healthcare providers, charities, and global research networks to influence policy, improve care pathways, and raise awareness of chronic illness and recovery following infection.
