Profile
Dr David Maidment is a Reader in Healthy Ageing at Loughborough University and a Chartered Health Psychologist whose research focuses on healthy ageing, workplace health, long-term health conditions, disability, and health and wellbeing. His work explores how physical, sensory, and long-term health conditions affect people's everyday lives, including their ability to remain healthy, active, and engaged at home, in the workplace, and in their communities.
David's research combines expertise in health psychology, behaviour change, and public health to develop practical solutions that improve quality of life and reduce health inequalities. He has led and contributed to research funded by organisations including the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the British Psychological Society (BPS), and industry partners. His current research includes the development and evaluation of digital interventions to support workplace health, self-management of long-term conditions, physical activity participation, and healthy ageing.
David has extensive experience of public engagement and media activity, having been featured in national and international media, and he has contributed expert commentary and articles for outlets including BBC Bitesize. He regularly presents research findings to professional, policy, and public audiences and has provided evidence to parliamentary inquiries, including the UK Parliament Health and Social Care Committee's inquiry into healthy ageing and physical activity.
