Profile
Professor Clare Mutzenich is a human factors specialist focused on how people behave when interacting with AI systems. Her research looks at what happens in practice - how people pay attention, make decisions, and respond when AI is part of the task.
She works across areas where AI is becoming part of everyday life, including transport, health and public services. A key focus of her work is understanding where expectations of AI break down - for example when people over-trust systems, misunderstand their capabilities, or fail to stay engaged when they still need to.
Clare has worked with start-ups, industry and government to examine how emerging technologies are used in real-world settings. Her research highlights the gap between how systems are designed to be used and how people actually behave.
She is Professor of Practice at Loughborough University and founder of Anthrometric. She provides clear, evidence-based commentary on the human realities of AI, particularly around safety, behaviour and public understanding.
