Profile
Dr Carly Perry is a lecturer in Psychology in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University. Her research focus is mental health in elite sport, specialising in women athletes and professional women footballers. Her work explores the personal, societal, and systemic challenges faced by athletes competing in high performance environments, and how sporting systems can better support mental health and wellbeing. She has worked on international research projects evaluating mental health strategies for elite and Olympic athletes, including work funded by the International Olympic Committee in collaboration with the UK Sports Institute.
Carly has featured on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour, BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, and BBC Sport, and her research has been covered by national outlets including The Guardian, The Times, and the BBC.
