Profile
Professor Moataz Attallah is an internationally recognised expert in advanced materials processing and additive manufacturing. He leads the Advanced Materials and Processing Lab (AMPLab), which has secured more than £15 million in research funding since 2010, working closely with industry to translate materials research into real‑world applications.
His research and leadership have supported projects funded by organisations across aerospace, defence, energy, manufacturing and advanced engineering, including Rolls‑Royce, BAE Systems, Safran, UKAEA, GKN Aerospace, Caterpillar and the European Space Agency. His work spans materials development, processing technologies and large‑scale industrial deployment.
Professor Attallah has held senior academic roles at the Universities of Manchester and Birmingham, where he was appointed Chair in Advanced Materials Processing in 2014 and later Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer. In September 2025, he was appointed Dean of the School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering at Loughborough University.
He regularly speaks on additive manufacturing, advanced materials and engineering careers, and has held honorary visiting positions at universities across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East.
