Profile
PhD, FAPS, FInstP, CPhys, FHEA
Alexandre Zagoskin is a Reader in Quantum Physics at Loughborough University, internationally recognized for his contributions to quantum engineering, mesoscopic superconductivity, quantum metamaterials, and quantum information processing. He graduated from A.M. Gorky Kharkov State University (USSR). His career spans leading research institutions—including the B. Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, the University of British Columbia, and D‑Wave Systems, where he served as Co‑founder, VP Research, and Chief Scientist—and he is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and of the American Physical Society, and a Chartered Physicist.
He has authored several influential books, including Quantum Engineering: Theory and Design of Quantum Coherent Structures (2 editions) and Quantum Theory of Many‑Body Systems (2 editions, Japanese translation), and continues to shape the field through research on quantum engineering, aiming to develop the theoretical foundations needed for large‑scale quantum systems. He also published a successful popular science book Quantum Mechanics: A Complete Introduction.
Worked with popular science outlets Physics World (UK) and Nauka I Zhizn’ (Life and Science, Russia).
