Dr Lara Alcock

I’m a Professor in the Department of Mathematics Education, and I study undergraduate learning, focusing on the conceptual understanding and study skills needed to succeed in proof-based mathematics.

I also work with expert mathematicians, studying how they read and think about mathematics, using this to inform research-based interventions to improve undergraduate teaching.

I am committed to communicating the results of research directly to people who can use them, and do this via regular talks for mathematicians and a series of three (so far) books for undergraduates: How to Study for a Mathematics Degree, How to Think about Analysis, and How to Think about Abstract Algebra.
