EDI Enhancement
For activities that have made the University more equitable, diverse, and inclusive.
Dr Rhianna Garrett
Over three years, Dr Garrett led the development of the UK’s first institutional policy addressing the specific needs of multiethnic communities - an area long neglected in higher education - and has been awarded a Leverhulme Fellowship to continue this work globally. This trailblazing initiative aligns with our commitment to lead the way by embedding innovative, research-led inclusion practices into university policy. As Global Coordinator for the Critical Mixed Race Studies Association and Social Media Manager for the charity People in Harmony, she champions inclusive policy globally.
The Women In Sport Mentoring Programme
The Women in Sport Mentoring Programme was launched at Loughborough in February 2025 with the vision of supporting students who identify as a woman to pursue a career in the sports industry. The primary beneficiaries are the 37 student mentees women at various stages of their sporting journeys who will hopefully feel more empowered, supported, and equipped to progress into a role within sport. Beyond individual impact, the programme aims to shift the culture of the sports industry by challenging norms, amplifying diverse voices, and embedding inclusion into everyday practice.
The Network of Networks
The Network of Networks is comprised of chairs and co-chairs of each of the Staff Networks, where each individual member carries the responsibility for each staff network, but comes together to share best practices and areas of related concern. Everything the NoN does is in service to the staff members it represents, advocating and representing inclusivity, authenticity and responsibility. Staff network memberships of nearly 700 members in some areas demonstrates the importance of these networks to the staff community.
SDCA’s EDI Co-Directors
Lorraine, Cecilia and Kerri are fantastic examples of how to build an authentic and responsible Vibrant and Inclusive Community from the ground up. This year the EDI Co-Directors have led a resurgence in EDI Champions, supporting Athena Swan and Race Equality Charter imitative. Championing diversity took on unique and visual celebrations across 24/25 with exhibitions of gender/sexuality, religion and race/ethnicity.
