Dr Meilan Yan joined Loughborough University as a Lecturer in Economics in July 2020. Prior to this, she held academic positions at the University of Hull and the University of Wolverhampton. She earned her PhD in Economics from Loughborough University, where her doctoral research was funded by the Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORS), established by the UK Secretary of State for Education and Science.
Dr Meilan Yan is an expert in sustainable economics and finance, focused on helping financial institutions stay strong and continue supporting communities, even during uncertain times. Her work covers banking regulation, behavioural finance, and managing financial risks linked to climate change, bringing fresh ideas and cross-disciplinary knowledge to solve real-world problems. She has published articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals such as European Journal of Finance, International Journal of Finance and Economics, International Review of Financial Analysis, Journal of Banking Regulation. Her research collaborates actively with scholars across the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Ukraine, China, and Australia.
