Background

Andrew graduated with an MPhys in Physics with Theoretical Physics from the University of Manchester in 2017, and started a PhD with Loughborough University in early 2018.

Main research interests

  • Plasmas
  • Electron beams
  • Simulation, particularly the particle-in-cell method

Title of thesis: Plasma cathode electron beam for high-integrity materials processing

The research aims to understand and optimise an electron source based on a plasma, as an improved alternative to conventional electron sources. It involves developing particle-in-cell simulations and verifiying these with experimental plasma diagnostics.
