Loughborough University’s Mathematics PGCE has been rated Outstanding in its recent Ofsted inspection. Together with the PE PGCE, it received this highest grade across all four areas of overall effectiveness, outcomes for trainees, quality of training, and quality of leadership and management.

The Mathematics programme has been running for just three years under the leadership of Dr Dave Hewitt, a member of Loughborough’s Mathematics Education Centre and a well-known expert in mathematical pedagogy and technology-enhanced teaching. Together with leaders of the PE PGCE, Dr Hewitt was commended in the Ofsted Report for contributing to the development of educational theory, both nationally and internationally, and for creating opportunities for trainees and newly qualified teachers to engage in this work.
