Biography

Prior to joining Loughborough University, Dave served with 45CDO Royal Marines specialising in Arctic Warfare. Subsequently, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications and his Master’s degree in Digital Communication Systems at Loughborough University.

Before commencing his PhD studies, Dave held various technical and strategy roles, including Chief Technical Officer, and worked from the United Kingdom, South of France, and Phoenix, Arizona. He has worked for a diverse range of startups and large corporations, including Motorola and Texas Instruments.

Dave holds several United States patents.

His areas of technical expertise include Computer Systems Architecture and 4G/5G Telecommunication Macro/ Small Cell Base Stations.

Dave’s research interests include Wireless Communications, Artificial Intelligence, and real-time autonomous systems.

Prior to this role, Dave worked in the private sector, architecting technology solutions for the products of Generation After Next customers. Activities included:

  • HS2 Video Analytic systems for site security and safety
  • Frictionless Retail solutions based on video analytics
  • Ballistic Missile Defence Systems for the US Navy
  • Macro Base Station on a Chip architectures for future wireless access points
  • Six Nines availability system architectures 

Research

Dave is conducting research on novel swarm drone capabilities for future Government and Defence applications. My research encompasses advanced swarm coordination techniques, assured operation in contested environments, communication technologies, and AI techniques to facilitate real-time swarm mission repurposing and peer coordination algorithms predicated on AI.
