What kind of things did you get involved in during your placement year?
During my placement at Hays, I specialised in the recruitment of regulatory compliance professionals into permanent positions within asset and wealth management firms in the city of London. I was hired to support the Principal Consultant who oversaw the Investment Management Compliance team. What advice would you give to someone thinking of going on a placement?
Although a placement may seem like a daunting idea now, I can assure you that you will not regret taking a year out to complete a placement. My time in industry has taught me so much that I have been able to put into practice during my university degree. Equally, working within such a fast pace and competitive market my placement has opened my eyes to what I personally need to work on to achieve the best future career.
What did you feel you gained from going on a placement?
I gained the ability to not only conduct myself in a professional manner within a fast-paced, corporate environment but also not fold under pressure. I feel much more confident in my own abilities since being back at university and I have managed my stress levels approaching deadlines and exams much better this year compared to other years.
