Alex obtained a PhD in Clinical Microbiology and Immunology, developing expertise in host pathogen interactions and infectious disease diagnostics. They began their career in industry, working in immunodiagnostic assay development before moving into laboratory management at Eurofins. There, they played a key role in establishing new laboratory services focused on plant disease diagnostics and transgenic protein expression in genetically modified crops. Their work involved overseeing scientific operations, managing teams and budgets, and ensuring the development of robust laboratory infrastructure and processes.
Alex joined Loughborough University in 2026 as a Technical Specialist within the Department of Chemistry. In this role, they support the department’s bioscience research laboratories and act as a technical lead for biological laboratory operations.
