Profile
I graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) South Africa with a bachelor’s degree in Housing. I then pursued and completed my Master’s in Development Studies at UKZN titled ‘A critical analysis of self-built housing as a model for peri-urban areas: the case of uMzinyathi, KwaZulu-Natal.
During my educational career, I contributed to teaching and learning activities at UKZN working as an academic development officer (ADO), tutor, and writing place coordinator. I then worked as an Assistant Building Inspector focusing on monitoring compliance, standards, and specifications within the built environment for the Ekurhuleni City Planning Department. This was followed by five years working as a Research Scientist at the WASH R&D Centre, where I led, coordinated, and collaborated on various trans-disciplinary and evidence-based water and urban sanitation research projects funded by local and international partners.
As a part of Water-WISER CDT, I will be exploring the intermediation between policy and implementation for effective sanitation services in sub-Saharan Africa.
